March 1, 2007 22:51 - Money Supports Life

Excerpt from Cashflow Quadrant, by Robert Kiyosaki (p.12)

"My rich dad had a different point of view.

"He thought it foolish to spend your life working for money and to pretend that money was not important.

"Rich dad believed that life was more important than money, but money was important for supporting life.

"He often said, 'You only have so many hours in a day and you can only work so hard. So why work hard for money? Learn to have money and people work hard for you, and you can be free to do the things that are important.'

"To my rich dad, what was important was:
  • Having lots of time to raise his kids
  • Having money to donate to charities and projects he supported
  • Bringing jobs and financial stability to the community
  • Having time and money to take care of his health
  • Being able to travel the world with his family
"'Those things take money,' said rich dad. 'That is why money is important to me. Money is important, but I don't want to spend my life working for it.'"

The book goes on to explain the difference between being an employee, being self-employed, being a business owner, and being an investor. Good stuff!

March 2, 2007 12:56 - Making More Money - Three Great Methods for Making More Money

Sometimes, making more money is the only way you can keep up with all the bills piling up. Now, before I go any further, I think it's advisable for me to make sure you don't make money itself your life focus. Yes, money is important, but its place is to simply provide you that which is precious to you. Remember, making more money isn't really what you seek... You seek what enough money (which is different for everyone) can provide you...

March 3, 2007 11:27 - Spiritually Awaken by Questioning it All

"... I am not giving you a system of philosophy which you can follow blindly, but I am trying to awaken the desire for true and intelligent fulfillment...

"... There can be fundamental and lasting change in the world, there can be love and intelligent fulfillment, only when you wake up and begin to free yourself from the net of illusions, the many illusions which you have created about yourself through fear.

"... If there is this true, voluntary revolution on the part of the individual, then you will create the right environment for all, without the distinction of class or race. Then the world will be a single human unit.

"... when the mind frees itself from the false, there can be the creation of right environment for the whole.

"Your first concern is to become conscious of the prison; then you will see that your own thought is continually trying to avoid coming into conflict with the values of the prison.

"This escape creates ideals which, however beautiful, are but illusions. It is one of the tricks of the mind to escape into an ideal, because if it does not escape, it must come directly into confict with the prison, with the environment.

"... the mind wants to escape into an illusion rather than face the suffering which will inevitably arise when it begins to question the values, the morality, the religion of the prison.

"So what matters is to come into conflict with the traditions and values of the society and religion in which you are caught, and not intellectually escape through an ideal.

"When you begin to question these values, you begin to awaken that true intelligence which alone can solve the many human problems..."

*excerpts from Total Freedom, by J. Krishnamurti (pp. 11-14)

March 4, 2007 13:56 - Discovering the True Nature of Your Anger

"At the moment you become angry, you tend to believe that your misery has been created by another person. You blame him or her for all your suffering.

"But by looking deeply, you may realize that the seed of anger in you is the main cause of your suffering.

"Many other people, confronted with the same situation, would not get angry like you. They hear the same words, they see the same situation, and yet they are able to stay calm and not be carried away.

"Why do you get angry so easily? You may get angry very easily because your seed of anger is too strong.

"And because you have not practiced the methods for taking good care of your anger, the seed of anger has been watered too often in the past..."

*excerpt from Anger, by Thich Nhat Hanh (pp.34-35)

March 6, 2007 17:46 - Create Your Reality - Your Thinking Really Does Create Your Reality

The idea that you create your reality is probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of achieving life abundance. Often, any struggles you experience in creating the life you want; one filled with prosperity, abundance, and happiness, stem from a "thinking" issue. Do you pay attention to how you think?

March 7, 2007 18:01 - The Power of Truth - Understanding the Power of Truth

Do you know about the power of truth? This is a phrase that's often utilized in a political setting. I, however, would like to discuss the power of truth as it pertains to your personal growth and feelings of empowerment. On the whole, how honest are you with yourself? How honest is your life?

March 9, 2007 15:59 - Trust and Respect Buy Loyalty

If you're trying to develop your leadership skills and personal growth, this is for you:

"Everyone needs someone and something to believe in.

"As adults, most people have learned the hard way that many people are only out for themselves. They have discovered, often through a hurtful process, that many people just can't be trusted.

"... If you can develop your people's trust in you, they'll return the favor with a loyalty and devotion that you just can't buy with salary. They'll give you 150% every time if they think you're going to give them a fair deal.

"On the other hand, if they think you have no principles, you don't 'stand' for anything, no amount of money can buy their best efforts.

"If you want your people to succeed, you've got to give them an example of fairness and honesty, above any example you set in your areas of knowledge or technical expertise.

"They can admire your business savvy and your personal success, and that's important.

"But if they think you will stab them in the back if it's to your advantage, they will never respect you or make their best efforts for you." - Pushing Up People, by Art Williams, pp.61-62

March 10, 2007 16:12 - Excerpt From the Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time
Enjoying one moment at a time
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace

March 11, 2007 11:36 - More Comfortable Financially - Gradually Becoming More Comfortable Financially

Have you ever considered the idea of becoming more comfortable financially rather than trying to strike it rich? I'm not saying that there's anything wrong at all with accumulating enough assets to where you're considered wealthy. What I am saying is that frustrations that come from not meeting your desired financial goals may simply come from focusing a bit too much on the end result, rather than fully enjoying the journey. I'm also not saying that you should have small goals.

March 12, 2007 16:18 - Paying Attention to Your Feelings

"Your emotions are the inner experiences that tell you how much of the divine energy you're summoning...

"Feelings can be measuring tools that gauge how you're doing in the manifestation process.

"An exceptionally positive emotional response indicates that you're summoning the divine energy of intention and allowing that energy to flow to you in a nonresistant manner.

"Feelings of passion, pure bliss, reverence, unmitigated optimism, unquestioned trust, and even illumination indicate... your desire to manifest success and abundance...

"You must learn to pay close attention to the presence of these feelings. These emotions... are agents that are in charge of how you clean and purify the connecting link to intention.

"These emotions tell you pricisely how much of the life force you're summoning, and how much pulling power you have going for you at that moment.

"Abundance is the natural state of the nature of intention. Your desire for abundance must flow free of resistance..." - The Power of Intention, by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 180

March 13, 2007 13:58 - Changing Your World - Thinking Your Way to Changing Your World

Changing your world, i.e., your life, doesn't have to be as difficult as it might seem. As with everything else in your life, this has everything to do with your perception of reality. It's all about how you decide to filter events through your mind. If you find yourself waking up to a life that makes you feel depressed or unhappy, how can you decide to look at things from a new angle? How can you visualize things differently, therefore changing your world mentally?

March 14, 2007 21:32 - Overcoming Your Challenges

"We often don't realize it, but we frequently come face-to-face with the exact obstacle we need at just the right time to sharpen us where we need it the most.

"All challenges, if dealt with directly and swiftly, will make you stronger, better, and wiser. Challenges or setbacks are intended to teach us something.

"They prepare us for performing more effectively at the next level... And the more ambitious you are, the more challenges will be thrown your way.

"... many times... great opportunities arise when you encounter obstacles, and these opportunities become more apparent when you maintain a positive, resourceful attitude and when you take time to analyze the situation or obstacle in a relaxed state of mind.

"... success is not measured so much by our accomplishments in life, but by what we had to overcome in the process.

March 16, 2007 14:17 - The Power of Visualization

Here's a few excerpts from a great article I found called "The Power of Visualization". At the bottom, I link you to the full article, Matt...

"... you are constantly creating your reality, now albeit on an unconscious level. If you want to know what you think about the most, what you are emotional about and what you believe in strongly, all you need to do is look at your life.

"Your current reality is merely a reflection of what is occurring in your mind.

"Visualization is a key in creating your own reality... Visualization is more than just seeing what you want in your mind.

"... Therefore, if you say, 'I want more money,' this is interpreted by the Universe as you 'want' to keep wanting more money.

"What you get is merely 'wanting' and basically no money. This holds true for phrases like 'I need, I wish, I hope,' etc. All you will manifest is 'needing, wishing and hoping' in ample abundance.

"... When you tell the Universe 'I have financial abundance, perfect health, a great personal relationship, spiritual enlightenment, and a wonderful and joyous life,' then you set the Universe in motion and it ensures that what you 'have' in your mind is brought into physical reality.

"It is not that seeing is believing it is rather believing is seeing. Better yet, knowing is receiving..."

March 19, 2007 15:47 - What Should You Do With Your Life?

I dug out a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a year ago. It's called What Should I Do With My Life?, by Po Bronson. I recommend you pick up your own copy and read it. Here's a couple excerpts:

"'What should I do with my life?' is the modern, secular version of the great timeless questions about identity, such as 'Who am I?' and 'Where do I belong?'

"We ask it in this new way simply because constant disruption in our society forces us to - every time we graduate, or get downsized, or move to a new city, we're confronted with this version of the question.
"It's a little more pragmatic than its philosophical and religious antecedents, reflecting the bottom-line reality that we can search for our identity only so long without making ends meet.

"Asking the question aspires to end the conflict between who you are and what you do..." p.118

"Do our actions represent our true desires, no matter how our mind or heart flip-flops? We're often confused by the evidence.

"We want X, but once we reach for it, our desire evaporates like a mirage. Did I want Y all along? Which piece of evidence is real, and which is a fabrication? p. 149

"I'm not sure there are right answers, which means we have to let it be okay that we make what appear, in hindsight, to have been mistakes. We shouldn't beat ourselves up about it. As I told Carl K., very few people get it right without missteps. It's normal to have gotten off track for long periods." p. 157

"... You close one door behind you, and inevitably another opens up in front." p. 105

March 20, 2007 13:23 - Wayne Dyer Quotes

March 25, 2007 22:35 - Being Authentic Leads to a More Positive Experience

"The more authentic you become, the more genuine in your expression, particularly regarding personal experiences and even self-doubts, the more people can relate to your expression and the safer it makes them feel to express themselves.

"That expression in turn feeds back on the other person's spirit, and genuine creative empathy takes place, producing new insights and learnings and a sense of excitement and adventure that keeps the process going.

"People then begin to interact with each other almost in half sentences, sometimes incoherent, but they get each other's meanings very rapidly.

"Then whole new worlds of insights, new perspectives, new paradigms that insure options, new alternatives are opened up and thought about.

"Though occasionally these new ideas are left up in the air, they usually come to some kind of closure that is practical and useful." - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey, p. 267

How much thought have you given recently regarding your authentic self?

March 26, 2007 21:21 - The Importance of Reading to Your Personal Growth

"... develop the habit of reading at least twenty to thirty minutes in the morning...

"What should you read? Anything that is stimulating, challenging, or gives you an edge in your industry or profession.

"There are lots to choose from, for example... Biographies and autobiographies are particularly inspiring. Reading them will give you an extra boost of positive energy...

"... Thousands of books reveal the lives of interesting and successful people, from sports stars and celebrities to adventurers, entrepreneurs and great leaders.

"There is a wealth of ideas in these volumes waiting to be absorbed by anyone with a little curiosity and a desire to do better." - The Power of Focus, by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewitt, p. 101

Matt here... I couldn't agree more with this passage. Reading is so important to bettering your mind, personal growth, and over-all attempts at achieving life abundance. I hope you take this seriously and make a decision to take action on it.

Devote a small time each day to reading and filling your mind with the "right stuff"! And, don't forget that...

"A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided."
- Anthony Robbins

March 28, 2007 10:33 - Dealing With Your Problems

I know someone who seems to be going through quite a few problems lately.

Sometimes it's easy to complain that you have all these problems and wish they would just go away. I used to think this way.

Sure, I don't like it when problems or challenges come up that I have to face. It's just that I've learned that it's the way you and I view our problems that does or doesn't create our growth in life.

If you look at trouble with a terrible attitude, you're not going to learn anything. When you go into it understanding that you'll come out on the other side soon, you can clear your mind and try to see what life's trying to teach you at this time.

Allow me to give you a couple quotes from John Maxwell in Developing the Leader Within You...

"People need to change their perspectives, not their problems." p. 78

"We should remember the words of Paul Harvey who said that in times like these it is always helpful to remember that there have always been times like these." p. 77

"Dolly Parton sums it all up with these words, 'The way I see it, if you want the rainbow you gotta put up with the rain'." p. 79

March 30, 2007 12:25 - There Are Conseqences to Limited Thinking

"The practice of looking for the 'right answer' can have serious consequences in the way we think about and deal with problems.

"Most people don't like problems, and when they encounter them, they usually react by taking the first way out they can find...

"If you have only one idea, you have only one course of action open to you, and this is quite risky in a world where flexibility is a requirement for survival.

"An idea is like a musical note. In the same way that a musical note can only be understood in relation to other notes... an idea is best understood in the context of other ideas.

"If you have only one idea you don't have anything to compare it to. You don't know its strengths and weaknesses.

"I believe that the French philosopher Emile Chartier hit the nail squarely on the head when he said:

"'Nothing is more dangerous than an idea when it's the only one you have'.

"For more effective thinking, we need different points of view. Otherwise, we'll get stuck looking at the same things and miss seeing things outside our focus." - A Whack on the Side of the Head, by Roger von Oech, p. 26

March 31, 2007 14:54 - Man's Dark Side

"'Of course, there is a dark side to us,' he said. 'We kill wantonly, don't we? We burn people in the name of God. We destroy ourselves; we obliterate life on this planet; we destroy the earth.

"'And then we dress in robes and the Lord speaks directly to us. And what does the Lord tell us? He says that we should be good boys or he is going to punish us.

"'The Lord has been threatening us for centuries and it doesn't make any difference. Not because we are evil, but because we are dumb.

"'Man has a dark side, yes, and it's called stupidity.'

"... After a moment's pause, don Juan explained that in the same measure that ritual forced the average man to construct huge churches that were monuments to self-importance, ritual also forced sorcerers to construct edifices of morbidity and obsession.

"As a result, it was the duty of every nagual to guide awareness so it would fly toward the abstract, free of liens and mortgages.
"... 'Ritual can trap our attention better than anything I can think of,' he said, 'but it also demands a very high price.

"'That high price is morbidity; and morbidity could have the heaviest liens and mortgages on our awareness.'" - The Power of Silence, by Carlos Castaneda, pp. 263-264
