Do You Know Your Authentic Self?I've got a confession to make... I've sometimes neglected my authentic self. Which, in turn, affected the abundance I've been able to experience. Has this ever happened to you? First of all, what's your authentic self? I look at this as the part of you that is, deep down, the most real part of you that you can possibly find. How many times in your life have you done things that you knew weren't right? I don't mean things according to your society's rules, laws or regulations. I mean things that went against the spirit inside you. Things that made you cringe inside because it just went against everything that felt real to you... your authentic self. Privacy Policy I'll give you an example from my life on going against your authentic self... By nature, I'm a pretty quiet guy. Now, if I believe in something passionately, I'll be more lively, excited, and talkative than you can imagine. However, if I don't have something that I feel is of value to pass on, I won't say much. I don't talk to hear myself talk, if you know what I mean. I can't take being around people for very long that are hyper and talk non-stop - it completely drains my energy. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with someone like that or that I'm better or anything. I'm just stating that my authentic self is of a quiet, thoughtful nature rather than being really talkative. In my mid-twenties, I decided that I needed to learn sales in order to broaden my horizons and understand how to deal with all personality types. I did this. In fact, I became rather good at it. I felt I proved that you don't need to be the typical, sleazy kind of salesperson stereotype in order to do well. It's possible to treat people with respect in the sales arena. The whole time, though, I never felt completely at ease. I learned all the closing techniques, met some really amazing people, and had a lot of good times helping my clients. I just never felt like it was authentic... for me. Finally, I got out of it and went into more of a customer service position where I just helped customers with questions and re-orders. I didn't have to "talk anybody into it" anymore. This I enjoyed much more. It felt more true to my authentic self. Then, I decided to try sales again (why, I have no idea!). I found I couldn't do it this time out. I knew all the words. I knew how to help people understand that what I offered was of benefit to them and that they should go ahead with me. But, I was miserable. I didn't have the heart for it anymore. I didn't have the killer instinct to wrap up the sale like I did a few years prior. I lasted all of two weeks. Here's what I learned... I wasn't being true to my authentic self at all. My initial sales experience was beneficial. It broadened my horizons and now I know how to react to and deal with all personality types. I can converse with anyone now, even those hyper ones ;-) But, for me, being reflective and a writer is more my style. That's why I love providing my thoughts on my website for you so much. I put on some music, write my thoughts down and allow you to find them and do what you want with them. Here's my point pertaining to you and your life: are you being true to your authentic self? Or, are you living a lie? Are you trying to fit into someone else's box of who you should be? I hope not. But, if you are, I hope the story from one chapter of my life inspires you to make a change. You've got to feed your authentic self if you desire life abundance! You've got to stop doing those things that put you in situations that cause you to cringe because you don't fit there. I don't know where you fit. But, you do! Pay attention to those feelings of being out of place. Pay attention when your insides are all tied up in knots. It's a sign that you're forcing yourself to be something you're not. If you're the opposite of me, you'll probably hate sitting around writing. You should be out talking up a storm with other people around you at all times. Whatever it is, be true to your authentic self. Find where you fit in. Find what makes you comfortable and go with it. Do that and your life of abundance isn't too far off. about ourselves, from ourselves." - John McCain Change your life, Matt Zavadil
