Building self confidence is a process of getting to know yourself and coming to an understanding of how you deal with life's situations.

Ultimately, you want to handle life from a standpoint of strength.

If you seek a life full of abundance, you need to develop a positive image of yourself.

Understand that when you're working on self confidence, you need to handle your fear. It's normal to feel this emotion, but how you deal with it is what separates those who are successful at building confidence and those who aren't.

Your fear turns into your doubt. Your doubt, in turn, develops into a lack of confidence. It's impossibe to live a life of abundance when you live inside a world of fear and doubt.

The secret is to know yourself.

Building self confidence comes from breaking through your fear and doing what you're afraid of. There's no way to wave a magic wand and just turn building confidence into a piece of cake. It's something you're going to have to work on.

You need to make a decision to go through the process of working on self confidence. You may not realize it yet, but you have the incredible ability to handle any challenging moment that comes up in your life. You may just need to awaken to this reality.

In order to forge lasting change in your life and fulfill your destiny with abundance and inner peace, you must act. Self confidence comes from action.

Thinking about how to build confidence will get you nowhere. You must change your response to difficult situations to one of knowing. You know deep inside you will respond positively.

Unresolved Issues

Once you've made the decision to change, the next step in building self confidence is to identify any unresolved issues in your life. Do you have something you haven't resolved in any of the following areas?

  • Your health
  • Your career
  • Legal
  • Your relationships
  • Your finances
  • Your spirituality

Or is there something else I haven't mentioned above? Whatever they are, you've avoided dealing with these issues because of that fear we've already talked about. Do you recognize the feelings of pain and worry it's all causing you?

Instead of living in a state of abundance, where you feel anything is possible, you get stuck treading water. Instead of building confidence in yourself, you find your energy drained.

So, let's stop you from treading water on these issues. Let's handle them. Step right into your fear. Yes, there will most likely be some confrontation when you face your pent up issues. But you know what, it's almost never as bad as you think.

Usually, our minds make everything seem so menacing and terrible. Then, when you take action and take on your unresolved issue, you find out that you can handle it. Is it always easy? No, but is it always worth it? Yes!

Because now you've started building self confidence.

I encourage you to develop the habit of handling unresolved issues.

Remember that almost daily, you're confronted with issues that you can either tackle head on or let linger. If you begin to handle them right away, you'll find that achieving self confidence, living a life of abundance and happiness, it all begins to fall in place.

You'll find a renewal in your energy reserves. All that past "stuff" has been purged and you fill your spirit with a renewed energy, ready to tackle each moment of your life with self confidence and gusto. It's a great way to live!

And you can achieve this state of being. Make the decision, then tackle your fear.

Your Spiritual Growth

I won't spend a lot of time on this area here, as I've talked about it in my Spiritual Growth section.

However, this is a huge step to take in attaining self confidence. Many times, the things we fear the most will be found when we begin to figure out our spiritual side.

Spiritual growth is a deeply personal quest for the truth about ourselves. Find that, and you'll find an even deeper knowing than just how to handle life's usual challenges.

Your Attitude

A few years ago, a friend of mine had one of those desk calendars with an inspirational quote about building self confidence printed on each day. One of them affected me and it's still taped to my desk today:

"The most powerful force I have is what I say to myself and believe."

I hope this can be an inspiration for you, too. Put that where you can see it everyday. When one of life's challenges begins to bring you a negative attitude, read it. Your attitude affects how you handle each situation.

If you live with a negative attitude, you'll find building self confidence difficult. Remember that fear I've been talking about? What happens when you allow your attitude to become negative? You begin thinking in that old fear mode, don't you?

You may have read elsewhere on my site about a sales business I was in that eventually left me deep in debt and unsure where my life was headed.

Even though it took me a long time to come to grips with what had happened, there's another quote about building self confidence I found during that time that I still read each day. It comes from a sales teacher named Tom Hopkins:

"My attitude every day will determine my success in the future. Today, I will walk, talk, act and believe like the person I wish to become."

I used those words to help me overcome those past challenges, move on and find the next phase of my life. It's helped me live in a state of life abundance rather than one of frustration and fear.

As I built my business life back up, I took the path of a positive attitude. It's imperative you do the same. Live life with a great attitude and you'll find that building self confidence will be a daily achievement.

Building Self Confidence
Treat Yourself

As you begin to build self confidence, I feel it's important for you to give yourself a frequent positive reminder of your personal growth experience.

Take the time to write a daily journal. Each day, make a note of a way you decided to handle a situation more positively than in your past and then took that action.

At the end of the week, review your entries and rejoice in your efforts of building self confidence. Find a way to celebrate your growth. Treat yourself to a movie, an ice cream, a hike, a nap, whatever!

Do something that allows you to experience something that makes you feel good. Something that just makes you feel like you.

Over time, you'll link building self confidence with joy, abundance, and a great attitude. And you'll be living the life you dream of today.
