Thoughts on Dealing With Fears
Dealing with fears is something I’m sure you’d rather not do.
However, we all end up fearing one thing or another throughout life, don’t we?
You may have a fear of heights…
Or a fear of getting too close to someone…
Or a fear of flying…
Or a fear of being alone…
Or a fear of running out of money and ending up broke…
I could go on forever. There are enough possible fears for you to feel to fill an entire book plus three or four sequels.
Dealing With Fears Decide to Get Over it
It’s vital for your spiritual and mental health to learn how to control your fear.
This brings me to one of my favorite quotes. It comes from Mary Manin Morrissey…
"You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith."
Fear is an emotion. Usually it has nothing to do with reality. Fear is something you’re feeling.
Living as an afraid person certainly does block any efforts and desire to pursue whatever dreams are burning inside you.
There’s no easy way to say this and there’s no easy way for you to do it…
You just simply need to get over it!
Dealing With Fears It Only Takes One Simple, Conscious Thought
Let me backtrack a second. I’m not being crass here. I feel fear just as much and often as you do.
But what I’ve learned in my life so far is that my fears are usually magnified immensely in my mind. If I allow myself to ponder them too long, instead of being in control, my fears are in control of me.
When I feel fear now, I recognize it for what it is… an emotion that must be replaced with a better emotion if I’m going to do anything positive and enjoyable.
I know this probably isn’t the “twelve step” solution you may have been looking for but it really does boil down to a simple decision.
Are you going to continue to allow your mind and its illusions to dominate your life?
Or are you going to decide right now that when fear begins to take you over, you’ll train yourself to recognize that it’s there and then consciously replace it with the courage you need to overcome it?
That’s what it takes to control your fear. You’re human and fear will always be a part of being human.
Until we become more enlightened in our spiritual growth journey, we’ll continue to be stuck dealing with fears.
So do your best to take back your mind when fear tries to hijack it and take solace in the knowledge that one day you’ll feel no fear at all.
Someday, you’re going to be reunited with your maker and feel nothing but overwhelming love…
Until then, decide right now that in order to control your fear, it’s going to take a simple, conscious thought… not a magic twelve step program.
Change your life,
Matt
