How To Fix a Lack Of Motivation

What do you do when you find you have a lack of motivation?

I personally feel that no matter who you are, there will be times when you go through periods of time where it's tough to get motivated.

Over-all, I'm a highly motivated person.

I have goals that I lay out and then get after because I have a large desire to achieve them.

However, there are times when I feel un-motivated.

This may happen to you, too.

The question, then, is what do we do to snap out of it and get back on track?

I've decided to lay out some thoughts on why feeling invigorated may be a challenge for you and how you can overcome it.

Lack Of Motivation
Exhaustion

Have you been getting enough sleep? Getting over-tired will affect your entire body, both mentally and physically.

If you're physically tired, it's hard to fight the need for sleep. Obviously, if your body is begging you for sleep, it's going to affect your motivation.

Being tired affects your mind in a negative way, also. You'll find it difficult to concentrate on any project in this state.

Everyone needs a different amount of sleep in order to feel rested. Find how much your body needs and stay rested.

Lack Of Motivation
Your Diet

Your diet, when mixed with your sleeping habits, will have a huge effect on how motivated you are.

Your body needs an adequate amount of nutrition in order to operate properly. If you feed it large quantities of sugar and junk foods, you're going to feel sluggish and tired even if you get enough sleep.

I'm not a doctor. This is just common sense to me.

Make sure you eat healthy. Keep the junk food in moderation and you'll be just fine.

Lack Of Motivation
Being Over-Worked

I find that no matter how much I want to get something accomplished, I sometimes need to get away from it. Once I take a break, I can come back to the project strong and refreshed.

One of the worst things you can do during times like this is to try to "work through it". Instead, get away for awhile.

Go to a movie. Read a book. Go to the beach. Take a long weekend. Spend a little extra time with your family or friends. Get some exercise. Do whatever will help you get your mind and body feeling refreshed again so you can come back with a more motivational spirit.

Just by following these three very simple tips, you'll be able to overcome any lack of motivation. As long as you're working toward goals that you're passionate about, that is.

Change your life,

Matt Zavadil
