Need A Motivational Idea? Here's Three Quick Motivational Ideas
I thought today I'd jot down three quick motivational ideas that you can use to get you going when you're feeling a little sluggish.
Sometimes, even though you deep down desire to get certain goals accomplished, you need a little push over the edge.
Motivational Idea #1 Make It A Game
Just making your tasks or goals a game can motivate you to get off the couch. Let's say you feel over-whelmed about getting the garage cleaned out or finishing a report for work.
Why not try the "time game"? Pick a certain portion of the project and tell yourself you're going to get it done in 30 minutes. Once 30 minutes are up and you made the goal, you get to relax with a good book, your favorite show, or whatever else motivates you.
Or, split off your various projects into sections and keep track on a chart as you finish each one. Kind of like when you were a kid and your parents kept track of your grades on the refrigerator.
Basically, stop looking at your projects as work and make them games. Make it fun.
Motivational Idea #2 Just 5 Minutes
This motivational idea is another off-shoot of the "Make it a game" idea.
Most of the time, I personally find that any procrastination issues I have are all in my mind. What I mean is, it's the thinking of what has to be done that drains you of the energy to get it done.
It's weird, but once you're doing anything, you get into it and, magically, it gets done. Haven't you noticed this? Even if you hate cleaning the bathroom, once you just start, something in you gets going and you just naturally finish it up.
I learned this concept from playing the guitar. I love playing, but sometimes just thinking about picking it up and going through all my exercises seems like too much. So, many years ago I began to say the phrase, "Just 5 minutes" in my head.
I'd tell myself to do it for just 5 minutes. If I really didn't want to continue, I could just put the guitar down. You know what always happens? That 5 minutes always turns into an hour or two!
I've since applied it to everything in my life. Try this motivational idea.... it works.
Motivational Idea #3 Write It Down
Try writing down whatever it is you need to get done in the next week or month and then keep it where you can constantly see it.
As you see your goals in your own handwriting day after day, even when you feel at your laziest, it's usually enough to finally get you off your duff and into the project.
Why not try taping a little list to that remote control? ;-)
"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily." - Zig Ziglar
Change your life,
Matt
