Self Realization Is Authentic Freedom - Have You Attained Self Realization?
In "Your Sacred Self", Wayne Dyer says self realization is authentic freedom.
He describes authentic freedom as, "... the freedom of knowing who you are, why you are here, your purpose in life and where you are going when you leave here..."
Paramhansa Yogananda says,
"Self-realization is the knowing in all parts of body, mind, and soul that you are now in possession of the kingdom of God; that you do not have to pray that it come to you; that God's omnipresence is your omnipresence; and that all that you need to do is improve your knowing".
Paramhansa Yogananda's quote comes from "The Essence of Self-Realization".
My reading on self realization today got me thinking that for all my pursuits at spiritual growth, I still have a long way to go. I came to the spiritual realization that I still place great emphasis on achieving freedom in worldly ways.
Although I have a much deeper knowing of who I am, why I'm here and my purpose in life than ever before, I still allow myself to indulge my ego's wants and needs.
This is OK because I'm aware of it and that's the beginning to improving anything in your life. I've read and thought about self realization before, but today it made more sense to me.
I'd like to suggest that you also think deeply about this aspect of your spiritual growth. Where are you when it comes to self realization, or a knowing of your true self? Achieving self fulfillment?
This is a state where you come to a spiritual realization that you truly are connected to a higher plane, a higher spirit, or God, if you will. It's egoless. You no longer have a need to try and gather strength from any source outside of yourself.
You no longer feel a need to gain a sense of yourself through your earthly accomplishments, the opinions of others, your possessions, etc.
Self realization allows you to find your identity inside, through your spiritual self and your own spiritual realizations. You find joy in the fact that you're one with God and and the eternal energy of the spirit.
Sometimes, as I reflect deeply on who I am inside and tap into this energy, it feels great to realize that I can let go of all my fears, angers and anxieties because they really mean nothing. The Yogananda quote I gave you above gives me a lot of hope.
It helps me see that although I may not have attained the knowing he speaks of yet (since I still do fall into the traps of my ego's fear and anxiety), I'm on the right path.
I feel I'm closer to finding my entire spiritual "place". A place where I've conquered all the temptations of my ego and am no longer self absorbed in any part of my life.
My hope for you is that, if you haven't already, you think about that for yourself. Have you attained self realization? Have you freed yourself from your earthly trappings, fears and anxieties?
If not, you should feel joy and hope in the fact that this is a place you can discover for yourself. Feel hope that it really is possible for you to achieve the spiritual realization and authentic freedom Wayne Dyer describes.
Soon, through your own spiritual growth journey, you'll know not only who you are, why you're here, and your purpose in this life, but you'll also come to an unquestioned knowing of where you're going when you enter the eternity of your death.
I'm glad to be on this journey for self realization with you. Who knows? Maybe it's possible that we'll never meet until we both pass on and can discuss our thoughts during that eternity. You never know! ;-)
Change your life,
Matt
