When seeking inner peace and abundance, your state of mind is extremely important.
Looking within yourself to learn more about your higher self and inner feelings requires calm, so you need to understand how to filter out and deal with any stress-filled thoughts.
You need to quiet your mind.
You can use the above link to find out more about becoming the observer of your thoughts, shutting down your thoughts and feeling inner peace, but it's also important to focus on your over-all state of mind.
Begin to pay attention to what mind state you're in normally, when you're not focused on quieting your mind in meditation.
In your everyday life dealing with the kids, work, responsibilities, etc. - what's your state of mind?
Is it a mind state of positive thinking? One where you expect to find abundance in your life?
Or is it one where you talk to yourself constantly using negative words? Do you fill your mind with self-defeating thoughts?
Either you've developed the habit of positive thinking, or you've developed the habit of negative thinking.
It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. These habits were most likely developed many years ago, probably as a child.
Depending on your age, this state of mind could be quite ingrained in your brain. ;-)
If it's a positive mind state, great!
If it's a negative mind state, you need to work on changing it to a positive one. Self defeating and negative thoughts are a self-fulfilling prophecy. I know you've heard this before, but it's absolutely true.

Your thoughts create your reality. If you're naturally in a negative mind state, you're going to find it difficult to attract inner peace and abundance into your life.
When you think something like, "I guess I'm just meant to be miserable. I'll never achieve the life of abundance I wish for", you are actually predicting the future!
Yes, it's true. When you think a thought, it's like you're putting out energy that creates a "ripple" into the future. If it's a positive thought, you're creating a positive future. One where you will find the inner peace you're lacking today.
Maybe it will help you to use this "ripple" visualization to change your state of mind. Think of it like throwing a rock out into a pond. When the rock hits the water, you see waves rippling out in all directions.
Envision your thoughts the same way. Do you want to constantly send negative waves out from your soul into the future, creating a destiny of unhappiness?
Or do you want to create a state of mind that, all day long, even in the midst of problems and challenges that come up, creates positive waves?
If you change your mind state to an abundant one, where you expect to find abundance and happiness in all you do, you'll begin to find that you are filled with an awesome feeling of inner peace all the time, not just when you try to quiet your mind, meditate, and find it.
You become inner peace.
